This is the start of a sign using spray paint techniques florescent paint) The projector is used to make signs but is being use in Sunday school and to show Veggie Tales DVD I brought for them.
These pics were taken while I was waiting for the a.m. taxi. It shows a guy cleaning the awning on a weird ladder, which turns out to be a square tubing fence section.
This food is the traditional foods here. Ugali is a dish of maize flour, millet flour, or Sorghum flour cooked with water to a porridge- or dough-like consistency. It is the most common staple starch. "Sukuma wiki" is a Swahili phrase meaning, depending on how you translate it, "week-pusher," "push the week," or "stretch the week."
Wednesday night was dead at the hotel so I gave rummy lessons to the wait staff.
Thursday I wrapped up the sign shop lessons and had dinner with Moses and his family. Judith made homemade tortillas! It was sad saying goodbye to this wonderful family. Frank had arrived back in Matete and came to take me to the hotel to deliver the mystery banner.
Frank and I left the hotel at 9 to go to Nivasha where he had left Pastor Mike. On the way we stopped so he could buy green sweet bananas and squash.
March 27th. to April 14th, 2017 Stan travels again to Kenya. Follow along and keep track of his adventures.

and More...
So here's the promised continuation of the pictures Stan sent..
On the second Sunday Stan was again at Pastor Moses' church and was a featured speaker. He said he made everybody happy because he kept it short and sweet. Of course there is no picture of him preaching. So after church Stan cooks Mexican dinner for Moses' family. Even texted me for Leticia's Mexican rice recipe.

You do what you need to do!
As you are aware Stan's internet connection has not been optimal and so he decides maybe it would be belter if he tried accessing it at a time when they not be such a high demand. So the man gets up at 2:30AM his time an spends 2 hours sending me pictures and comments for you. The man is truly the Crazy Muzungu (white guy). Hope you enjoy......Mary
Sign training continues.
Navalayo black banner one of the first jobs, pre-sold |
3 color decal has registration dots cut out before applying |
This is a screenshot and the cut decals on floor. This is what we needed to do to make a 3' x 6' ft. banner due to small cutter constraints. I'm not posting the final photo, as I will offer anyone a prize, from Kenya, to whoever can decipher what the banner says. :}Post your guess in the comments.
Ready to go. What does it say? |

And the Adventure Continues
So here's more pictures.....
The first Sunday we attended Moses' church This is the Sunday school class and is a "find Waldo" photo. Can you find me? The next Sunday I go to preach. More to come on that.
The dancing is the youth showing their dance moves.
Moses and Joseph are working on the plywood we bought in Bungoma to make a usable table top. This is a pre-sold and designed banner we did the first day.
This is a day that Hope (Moses' daughter) stayed home from school "sick" and had a good time playing and toting around Terry Ann the neighbor child. I got Shallom (Moses' son) to take a picture with me by bribing him :) Last year the only interactions I had with him was as he ran by, he'd hit me.
This is a photo of Pastor Moses' and Judith's new house. The picture is with Senator Daisy, Hope, Shallom, Moses and myself.
Piki piki (or boda boda) is my opportunity to make a little $ on the side here in Kenya. I can't get two others behind me though! So my profit margin will be lower than most.
We made a trip to Bungoma to get supplies. If you are a Hilton Honors member, you might consider staying here next time you travel to Kenya.
Here's a young man cutting sheet metal in Bugoma.
That's all for now. Will try again to get some more pictures uploaded. Take care and God Bless!

We re-freshened Brad's plaque and hung it the first day. |

At Last!!!
So I've been in an internet hole and have experienced frequent power outages. I haven't been able to send pictures until now. Here are pictures that should have been included in older posts but they are here now. Enjoy.
The baskets and pottery are in Nairobi where they display even new furniture along the road in front of their shops.
The donkeys we saw along the road as we traveled to Metete. Usually they have either a heavy load or are pulling a cart. These two were rolling in the dirt enjoying their time off.
The Muzungu zoo is the hallway that is barred and screened from the road down below. The locals go by and wave. I told Dave Johnson last year that it was the place where they had Muzungu;s caged and that they feed them there. the photo of the family posing is taken through the screen at the Muzungu zoo.
The guards are here at Downhill Springs. When I was editing the photos I thought "I'm glad the guard didn't have a whoopsie moment :)
These are the cooks at Downhill Springs where I'm staying and of course the tortilla one is when I was showing them the heating of my tortillas.
Here are the ladies that carry 5 gallon buckets of water uphill from the springs each morning and evening. It shows a little girl with 2 one gallon jugs full. And our kids cry to take out the trash!

Still Having Problems with the Internet!!
So Stan can't send pictures nor post at the moment so I'm still filling in with what information I have through phone calls.Stan has made friends with the kitchen staff and gave them a bag of tortillas. Now he gets tortillas with almost every meal. He also looked up a tortilla recipe online to give to the cook. Perhaps he'll get fresh tortillas soon.
The guys took a trip to get plywood to make a sign. They attached it to the roof of their vehicle and it kept flopping around. Frank assured Stan that it was tightly anchored and would be alright. Someone flagged them down and when they checked, the wood was almost cut in half by the bungee cords and they had wood for kindling by time they reached their destination.
They already have a banner order and they will be working on that today. They can turn the sign making lesson into a profit.
Keep checking in. I'm hoping for pictures soon.

Where's Stan????
Where's Stan???
So Stan and Mike have been busy. Saturday they traveled to Eldoret and did more shopping for sign supplies and other things. They've settled into their main base hotel and got a good night's seep. Problem is the internet at the hotel is very slow and Stan is having a difficult time reading or posting anything. He has lots of pictures but there's no way to upload them.Sunday Stan went to Pastor Moses church and enjoyed his time there. Mike and Frank took off elsewhere and returned late afternoon for a nap. While they were napping Stan made friends with many of the hotel personnel including the manager. He got to meet the guards with bow & arrows; got a behind the scenes kitchen tour; and just visited with everybody. He says he's got great pictures but we'll have to wait to see.
I talked to him Monday morning (Sunday night, our time) and he was off on another shopping trip with Moses and Frank. Let's hope they didn't get into trouble. You can see a few pictures and a blog posting from Mike by going to http://www.agapekenya.org/resources/api-blog.html
Stan wants to thank all of you for your prayers. Tomorrow they will start training in earnest and Mike will be off to Mt. Elgon. Keep checking for updates.

And He's Off Again to Kenya!
Shopping for sign supplies |
Finally got to see the animals. |
After a night's rest, he and Mike scurried around Nairobi with Frank. They had lots to do including picking up sign supplies for Moses, audio bibles for Mike and a stop at the Java coffee shop where they got free drinks because Mike was wearing a hat with their logo. Waitress had never seen one before. Maybe that was because Stan made it for Mike. He was too tired when I spoke to him this morning(his evening) to post anything but he did send these two pictures. Continue to pray for him and Mike as they continue their journey.
